March not only sees the re-opening of the Carlton Cannes , but what was the Grand Hotel is re-opening on 10 March as the Mondrian Cannes (part of the Accor Group) with 75 rooms.
It is the first Mondrian in France, but many in the film industry will know the Mondrian brand from the hotels in Los Angeles and in Shoreditch, London.
The Grand has been well known and enjoyed by festival goers for decades for its gardens that stretch back from the Croisette, where its Hyde Beach Cannes is located, and is a handy cut through to Rue d’Antibes.
For those that like a little Festival de Cannes history, the first festival in 1946 was opened in the gardens of the original Grand Hôtel by the American singer Grace Moore singing “La Marseillaise”. The original Grand was one of the city’s first great hotel, opening in 1863 at the same time as Boulevard de la Croisette.
